Click to expand. No personal experience with it but I presume it's identical to the OM series 78 option, so if you can find any reviews on that it should give you an idea of what to expect I used the Shure m78s for a few years. Last year I switched to a vintage Stanton 500. It was better. If you're a pro or audio restoration engineer you're probably going to be choosing between the Stanton, or the Grado. I'm personally not a fan of the Grado.

The Stanton tracks very well and there is a nice range of styli available for it, ranging all the way up to 8 mil. I'm currently using it with a 3 mil tip and 78 playback is excellent. The cart is common and probably won't cost you more than $25 on eBay or something. A new 3 mil tip was even less.

Checkbox I use the Shure M78S. It comes jumpered to mono from the factory, but with my first AT-LP120, the jumpering wasn't compatible so I had to remove the jumpers.

I think the IOS depends on the WAD you're installing but could be mistaken. Assuming you have BootMii and HBC installed via hackmii (which should be what LetterBomb did) I'd next make sure you've got the Trucha bug installed in IOS36 and then install the 'normal' cIOSes (I recommend ). If anyone can give me a simple guide to follow, I'd appreciate it enormously. How to install wad manager on wii 4 3u.

The size of the stylus is 2.7 mil so it rides a little deeper in the groove, getting past those surface scratches and damage caused by a 3 mil stylus. Depending on the vintage of the 78's you are playing, a few different groove widths were used on some of the early ones before the standard 78 rpm record. I have had no problems tracking at 1.5 grams.

I have tried aftermarket wide groove stylii and they just don't sound right(or even work at all), just like aftermarket stylii for almost any cartridge or application. The OEM's knew what they were doing so I prefer an original made stylus. The later 78's of the mid-to-late 50's play well with a 2 mil stylus and the vinyl reproduction 78s were cut for a 2 mil stylus. The reproduction vinyl 78's were made for jukeboxes. In the 50's, vinyl 78's became common for the radio station promotional copies.

Commonly, vinyl, vinylite and polystyrene 78's started popping up in late-50's consumer 78's and continued well into the 60's and 70's on the kiddie 78's. Again, depending on what vintage 78's you play is a determining factor on which cartridge you choose.

The mid-to-late 50's 78's have a wide dynamic range and often sound as good if not better than the 45's of the era, so a dedicated 78 rpm cartridge should have a modern dynamic range. 78's made before magnetic recording tape was the recording source have a much narrower dynamic range, but still deserve a good cartridge. Whatever cartridge you choose, make sure it meets the requirements of the records you play. All my turntables capable of playing 78's have tubular 'S' shaped tone arms with removable headshells. I have multiple headshells mounted with different cartridges. It is a snap to swap and re-balance each tone arm with the interchangeable headshells. It's easy to damage a cartridge or stylus when you just swap the stylus so I only do that if I absolutely have to.

Click to expand.I was referring to the 78e, although they also have the lower cost model 78c which is the $90 one you referred to. My Stanton 500 + 3 mil stylus cost me less than $50 total and I don't think the pricing was a fluke or anything. That's half the cost of the 78c, and a third of the 78e! Any warp severe enough at that speed would definitely be problematic but the Stanton has dealt with discs that my old Shure didn't want to play well with very slight warps. One of my old Hit Of The Week discs was basically unplayable, now sings again. And I had a rock 78 with almost a 'buckle' more so than a warp, and the difference was as if I had suddenly changed to a damped tonearm in the way that it dealt with that quick shock, no bouncing or wavering to the sound. Just staying with the disc and tracking it smoothly.
